Do you occasionally challenge yourself to try something new with your phone or camera? Or do you perhaps notice a published photo and decide to try one similar yourself?
I recently noticed a nice flat light from our hallway skylight washing evenly over a wall.
I grabbed a small end table, placed it in front of the wall and placed a plant on the table, grabbed a camera and sat on the floor to get eye level with the plant.
You can see in the technical note below that I intentionally overexposed by 1/3 in order to render the vase a bit brighter (to more accurately record the white vase).
Some adjustments can be made on the computer, but it’s best to get it as close to right as you can in camera.
( Unless told otherwise, cameras automatically attempt to average the luminance of any frame to an overall 18% grey tone (‘neutral grey’).
