This September 17th sunrise was photographed at 7:35 am. Thick fog had covered both Haro Strait and the surrounding landscape (just the top of Mount Doug is showing).

Composing with Thirds
Shooting an image sometimes lends itself to composing with thirds . Below the sun is placed at the intersection point in a 3×3 grid. (I have set the grid to always show on my iPhone.)
Also the ‘blue sky’ is in the top third and most of the fog is in the bottom third. The sun and Mount Doug are deliberately placed at the intersection of vertical and horizontal lines.
Read more about the Rule of Thirds and when you might want to use it.

Hang around for a bit.
When I have time (and these day I seem to have lots), it can be interesting to see what happens after the sun has risen.
