A spectacular, clear sky January sunrise begins over our local lookout spot. The camera was mounted on a sturdy tripod. A simple, 50mm lens was used.
The first image (above) looks east across Haro Strait toward Mount Doug. The tiny white dots in the black area (lower portion of image) are lights from houses.
notes: to capture the early stages of a sunrise, you need at a minimum:
1. weather (in this case a clear sky, little wind with no haze, no fog, no precipitation)
2. ability to get to the shooting location in the dark or semi-dark
3. normally a wide or standard length lens (in this example a 50mm lens), tripod, timed or remote shutter release
The second image taken at 7:30 a.m. looks south-east toward what I believe is Mount Rainier (far left side, last mountain). Rainier is roughly 240 km away.

Technical:Canon EOS R5 , ISO 200, 1/30 sec, f/8, Canon 50mm F1.8 lens, Really Right Stuff tripod
