A Dark Eyed Junco snacks on squashed berries in the middle of the road.
A long lens—in this case 800mm—has a minimum focus distance of about twenty feet but you still get a close-up from that distance…and one with a shallow depth of focus. The bird is detailed and the road —near and far—is not. (This helps the main subject stand out from the background.)
