Sometimes accurate colours in photography are essential. This image of a ‘fish on a circuit board’ by artist Peter McFarlane, is an example.

The image below shows a photographic greyscale target card photographed along with the artwork. This test image will be used when editing all the images from the shoot .

The photographer can simply click on the ‘neutral greyscale target‘ to set the correct all colours and the brightness in the image (and any other images created using that exact studio light).

Note: A computer screen’s colour and brightness change over time and need to be regularly adjusted for accuracy, so the other important piece for professional photographers is a regularly calibrated computer monitor.
