I was fortunate to cross paths with this deer (and somewhat wary) during an early morning hike this week.
Having a ‘zoom lens’ (see technical notes below) allows you many options in framing a subject without carrying (and having to change) several lenses.
In this case, the deer was about 30 or so feet away, and slightly uphill from the trail. I wanted to fill the frame with the deer but also show the grass in the foreground and the oak trees in the background.
Technical: Canon EOS R5 , ISO 200, 1/500 sec, f/11, 100-400mm zoom lens at 373mm, handheld
