Saanich Commonwealth Place. Canadian artist, Roy Henry Vickers designed these acrylic stucco on styrofoam Bas Relief panels on the northern wall of the building.

I chose today’s early morning sidelight in order to accentuate the relief and lines of the shapes.

Hint: In a perfect world, you would face the wall ‘square on’ and level with the center of the image.

You would use an architectural tilt-shift lens, mounted solidly on a tripod and shift the lens if you are not able to shoot from the vertical center of the image.

In my professional work, I used both 17 and 24 mm lenses on a high resolution 35 mm camera body. Since these lenses can produce correct perspective, no cropping is required. Images created are full size and resolution. But today I was using my phone. What this means is that the phone’s lower resolution image needs further perspective corrections and cropping in software. The end result is a much smaller useable image than that of a camera.

(I did move away from the building and up a small slope to get a bit nearer to level with the centre of the artwork and this somewhat reduced amount of cropping required).
