Water cascades down a Vancouver Island cliff face. I like the idea of this shot, but something just seems missing.

After looking at it several times, I believe it’s the depth of focus; the part of the image that is sharply in focus is toward the back of the image. For this image to have worked, everything stationary in the image should be sharp.

I seem to have chosen a shallow depth of focus (aperture was set to f/4.5 with a 200 mm lens…not enough to get the rocks sharply in focus … a setting of f/11 or f/16 should have been used. This would cause the rocks to be sharp and the moving water to blur more for a better feeling of movement).

Technical: Canon 1DX with Canon EF 70-200 zoom at 200mm, ISO 2000, Shutter Speed: 1/100 sec, Aperture: f/4.5
