Cannon Beach

Haystack Rock, a Cannon Beach iconic sea stack (72 meters tall). And much photographed…

Fortunately were staying at the beach and were able to head out before any other folks were on the beach that morning. And the bonus clearly is the great colour in the sky reflected on the wet sand.

Technical: I wanted a longish exposure to slightly blur the moving parts of the image. But a long exposure requires a tripod and a tripod sinks in the soft wet sand—especially when the waves slide by. Fortunately, I brought along the custom made “shoes” I built to go over the tripod legs. The result is a feeling of motion on the water but crisp detail on the sea stack, right down to individual white birds (when enlarged).
