Brady’s Beach

This is a July low tide at Brady’s Beach near Bamfield on the west coast of Vancouver Island near Barkley Sound.

The Bamfield area is isolated and surprisingly stunning. And it has an East side and a West side.We arrived in July (by road) on the East side; fortunately we were able to find out how to call for the water taxi (a 14 foot aluminum boat). The boat took us from the East side up the inlet to the West side boardwalk where we explored the sites. We dropped into Bamfield Mercantile & Marine where we were surprised to find our previous Salt Spring Island neighbours (Kevin & Marnie) were now the store owners.

What about the beach? At the store, we heard there was a beach nearby on the west coast—about a 20 to 30 minute inland hike—and since it was low tide, we decided to take a look.

Wow, what a stunning surprise:

We had the place to ourselves except for one small greeter dog who showed us around until it was time to head back.

Our final surprise of the day was a mother bear and cubs encounter on the way home. But that’s another story…
