I recently shot promotional portraits on behalf of my business cause, the Gulf Islands School of Performing Arts (GISPA), at a rate of six portraits per hour. Each year these GISPA theatre, dance, and music students collectively write, choreograph and create the score for their big year-end production. In their tenth year of being a school within a school, GISPA’s 2014 show is based on Daniel Wallace’s Big Fish. We—GISS work experience student Stefanie and I—were at Gulf Islands Secondary for a morning of portraits. Several students wanted black and white to echo the show’s time period, so that’s what we did. Here are the first ten photographs we’ve processed so far:
The portraits will be on display during the show at Salt Spring’s ArtSpring Theatre May 14 and 15. After the show, the performers will keep their prints and a high resolution digital versions for their personal use.
Tickets: $15 – available through the ArtSpring Box Office or online
* promotional photos from the 2013 show, Sogno di Volo, (inspired by the work of Leonardo Da Vinci and other great artists) were shot during a rehearsal and involved just one prop; a gold frame. Have a look…
