Abstract

Blur Art how to ©johncameron.ca

This image was created at sunrise on the ocean’s edge. Seeing the reflections in the water, I experimented with panning and a slow shutter speed…

Choose the subject(s) you want to blur. Practice ‘panning’. In this case across the water to get the coloured reflections to streak horizontally across your image.

Because you may see ‘lines’ across your image, you will want to pan straight across your subject. Some people like to use a tripod to keep things even. Set your camera to a slow shutter speed.

Practice a few times without pressing the shutter. When you feel ready, repeat your pan but this time press the shutter once your pan approaches the area you are trying to capture. Keep panning through and after the shot!

Check your shot, make any necessary adjustments, and repeat until you get what you are looking for.

Bonus: because nothing needs to be ‘sharp’ your image can be printed larger than usual.
